Duramaxx is an abrasion resistant material, higher than the comum UHMW and an exclusive development of Baron. Manufactured from UHMW certified resins with molar mass up to 8,0 million g/mol.
Light weight, cheap and deeply wear resistant, the product is indicated to heavy industrial use and can be used in chutes, silos, curbs, spouts and mining mobile equipments like trucks, wheel loaders, tractors and so on.
In today’s text we decided to do it differently: instead of explaining how Duramaxx can be advantageous for your company, we decided to show it through a successful case that speaks for itself.
What was the problem faced by the client?
The client got to Baron with problems in his productivity caused by daily silos clogging and a lot of breakdown hours to solve the situation. Besides that, the mine suffered with high water expenses and went through a low occupational safety moment.
In a technical way, the client information and the problems found by Baron were:
Data:
Bulk: Crude iron ore
Sieve: <3/4”
Average productivity: 400 t/h
Average number of clogs per Day: 2,5
Breakdown time caused by each clog: 1 hour
Problems
Productivity: production line stopped
Environmental: use of water for unclogging
Occupational safety: confined work NR35 (according to the Brasil’s regulatory standards)
Kaizen: Cleaning at the bottom of the impact table
How Duramaxx definitely solved the client’s problem?
The Baron’s engineering team together with the client’s engineers developed a non-stick coating solution. 30 millimeter Duramaxx wear plates were installed on the undersize sifting in the iron ore treatment plant, committed to achieving 180 lifespan days predicting to change twice a year.
Right after the installation it was noticied a huge difference in the processed ore’s flow, because the UHMW material has amazing properties for this kind of a job, being impact resistance, high abrasion resistance, great chemical resistance and self-lubricant.
What were the results obtained by the partnership with Baron?
During 5 months of continuous operation (what is equivalent to 2.920 hours actually operated and a total of 1.170.000 tons processed), there was no clogging and neither significant ore accumulation in the coated walls.
Regarding wear, the average value as a function of time was about 9,8g per day or 0,5% per day.
Proving the undeniable effectiveness of Baron’s exclusivity, with the use of Duramaxx, the company saved 450 breakdown hours caused by clogging and ensured 180.000 more tons processed in the period.
